Pleasant Garden Elementary Parents and Faculty,
Formal discussions about switching from the current PTA (Parent Teacher Association) to a PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) format at Pleasant Garden Elementary began last year. We have researched and contemplated this switch earnestly over the last year. To this end, the PTA Board of Directors adopted a resolution at its June 6th meeting recommending the PTA be dissolved and directing that the question of such dissolution be submitted to a vote of a special general membership meeting of members having voting rights. The PTA plans a special meeting August 17, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the school in which a vote will be taken to formally dissolve the PTA and establish an unaffiliated, independent Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO) at Pleasant Garden Elementary.
In accordance with NCPTA bylaws, dissolution requires a 2/3 vote of members present. Those eligible to vote must have been in good standing on the date of adoption of the resolution, and who continue to be members in good standing on the date of the special general membership meeting, shall be entitled to vote on the question of dissolution. We do not want to exclude anyone that wishes to vote. If you would like to vote on this important issue, we hope to see you then.
We look forward to a wonderful year at Pleasant Garden Elementary!
